Transparency and volumes for a timeless style: Etoile is a chandelier that combines rigor and refinement, in which the cylindrical volumes – made in etched blown glass and Pyrex – are arranged in compositions that replace traditional decoration with a more sober elegance.
The project for Etoile takes its cue from the archetype of the Murano lamp, reinterpreted by means of subtraction. In Etoile, the rich decoration of the traditional chandelier leaves room for a refined game of volumes, while the contrast between the transparency of the central cylinder in Pyrex and the texture of the etched glass of the diffusers – also in a cylindrical form – generates a fascinating balance of opposites: a refined but impressive chandelier, providing intense but pleasant brightness, a sober elegance that is extremely sophisticated at the same time.
There is no visible structural element at the centre: support for the lighting modules is provided by a cylinder of transparent Pyrex, almost imperceptible to the observer, even more so when the chandelier is on. A design vision, in which the support is transparent and vanishes from view, which is in continuity with other creations for Foscarini, such as Fleur and Chapeaux, or the previous Buds model, all by Rodolfo Dordoni.
Bulbs with a silver frontal finish are attached at the centre of each diffuser, aiming the light towards the glass and allowing the etched diffuser to absorb and then delicately release it. Hence the glass does not simply screen the light, but becomes its protagonist, producing a soft, enveloping glow and spreading indirect, diffused and atmospheric light.
Etoile comes in two versions: Grande Etoile, with a configuration on three levels, and Etoile Ronde with a single level.

“We have eliminated the central skeleton, the arms, and any superfluous decoration. The objective was to conserve the rich allure of this type of lamp, while expressing it in a contemporary language constructed through the play of volumes. We wanted to create a chandelier that floats in space, with a discreet, versatile character.”
