Kites, fireflies, pheasants
“I’ve known this land always. The noises, the shadows, the sounds. This is where I truly feel at home. A home that means a fire in the fireplace, and a large meadow that comes alive at the beginning of summer with fireflies. With lots of space, in which to fly kites with my husband and my daughter.”

We’re in the countryside near Mantua, where in his youth my father, from the valleys of Brescia, brought the cattle for the seasonal cycle of grazing.
This is where he eventually settled. I grew up here: the house where we live today was an old barn. And now that my life has become very busy, with travels and four jobs – the fourth, and the most important, as I say, is being the mother of our daughter Matilde – returning here, in the midst of greenery and silence, is what I call peace. Silence in a manner of speaking: there might be hares or pheasants “fighting” on the lawn in front of the house… I’ve become a farmer, and I’ve known this land always. The noises, the shadows, the sounds. This is where I truly feel at home. A home that means a fire in the fireplace, and a large meadow that comes alive at the beginning of summer with fireflies. With lots of space, in which to fly kites with my husband and my daughter: a real passion. The prettiest kite is perhaps a large octopus I brought here from Beijing.
